About
Visual tales that cast light and shadow onto the human experience
I am the label representing Despina Economopoulou’s diverse body of audovisual work and collaborative projects. I bring new vision by playing with reality inviting viewers to join me on a journey of new perspectives.
In critical times we look via the problem towards the solution.
In DESfilms we create films & audiovisual material designed to stimulate creative thinking, inspire positive change and give a voice to new ideas that prompt personal growth, new paradigms and collective evolution.
DESfilms body of work includes fiction film, documentary, corporate videos, social videos, video dance works, video art pieces, videos for theatre performances, installations and ways of using the audiovisual as a educational tool for personal growth and transformation.
Innovative original concepts Raise awareness Passion for visual storytelling
More than meets the eye: DES, in Greek (ΔΕΣ), means ´see´ just as we ‘see’ films that make us look within, taking us to places previously unseen.
DESfilms uses the lens to spin visual tales to make the unnoticed go noticed. A dancing camera that moves from dark to light, as an extension of the eye, capturing energy and moments and translating them into stories.
By crossing the boundaries between ‘you’ and ‘I’, creating a communal space of thought, emotions, feelings and ideas, DESfilms takes us on adventures that bring us a little closer to this shared space.
Visual tales Capturing energy e-motions
DES are the first three letters of DESpina (Economopoulou). Since I remember, I always think in images, turn them into stories and concepts, as my own way of making sense of the world and connecting with my own truth, the truth of others and the spaces in between
It was the gift of my first view master at the age of six that marked the beginning of the start of my love affair with visual storytelling. It quickly became a driving force that just goes on and on, still with the same awe inspiring feeling, passion and joy only using more advanced tools.
Later, a degree in Politics in University of Piraeus, Greece enhanced my understanding of socio politics and global issues. A postgraduate course on Film, Video & New Screen Media became the playground I needed to discover new and ground breaking media techniques being developed at that time, mentored by brilliant teachers and professionals while interacting with a vast network.
Using audiovisual language from creating commercial content, social messages, stories for film or educating is what is all about. My recent work in education with children includes showing them in a playful and experimental way tools for visual expression and techniques that open new pathways and creative possibilities, leading us both to the discovery of new schemes of dialectic and educational processes.
DESfilms is always looking for opportunities to grow and expand, enriching the field of its activity while serving its purpose.
We are constantly motivated to work with passionate and daring professionals who want to get their messages across using original and innovative ways by bringing something fresh.
Moved by stories that need to be told Eager to be engaged in new projects
